Tomoya Nagase (長瀬智也, Nagase Tomoya) is a Japanese singer and actor born on November 7, 1978. He is the youngest member of TOKIO, a Johnny Entertainment musical group. He is the primary vocalist, in addition to playing the guitar alongside TOKIO's leader, Joshima Shigeru. Nagase is known as Nagase, Tomoya, Naga-kun, Tomo-kun, Babe or Tomobabe. i) Childhood & Family Nagase was born in Kanagawa-ken. His father was a professional motorbike-rider. Nagase was sent to nursery at the age of 6 months because no one could look after him. His parents later divorced. After that, Nagase and his sister live together with their mother. Nagase look normal at baby periods but he is growing faster after all. Studying in Kidde Garden, small Nagase much taller than same year school-mate and everyone thought that he is a girl coz he keep in long hair and look sweet & cute.
Small Nagase was a naughty boy, until standard 4 he got experienced of bone fracture in 6 times. Recap he bone fracture experience:-
- treat 50 meters sliding roads as roller training place and the result for didn’t speed down is getting arm fracture
- play football in field, accidentally hit a big stone and foot fracture
- Whole leg bone fracture and need to wears a cast coz slide down from 2nd floor
- Not comfortable to wear a cast, broke it and asked mother to bring him to hospital again
- Wearing a cast for a month, in the morning doctor said recover & no need come to hospital again. Small Nagase too happy & have fun with friends, in evening get finger fracture and back to hospital. Nagase’s mother was worrying anything wrong of small Nagase bone that easy get fracture. Doctor said nothing wrong of his bone, just because small Nagase too naughty.
Small Nagase need to back home in time fixed by mother. If he get late, his mother will punished him stand in front of the main door. Anyhow, Nagase have close relationship with family. His sister have 3 children and they are not calling Nagase as uncle but called him “Toya”.
Small Nagase like to play skating & roller. In standard 3, he already understood how to do backward somersault, this became him get good chance to join Johnnys. Accidentally saw on TV Light GENJI and SMAP played sliding and roller skating, all was Nagase strength. At the same time, SMAP choosing academy member, therefore his sister submit his personal profile to the company.
ii) Career
a) As a member of TOKIO
He was inspired by bands Hikaru Genji and SMAP to answer a recruiting call of Johnny Entertainment and was accepted at 1990.
In 1992, he played several stage plays (PLAYZONE and MASK) together with other TOKIO members. He first played tambourine during TOKIO's early performances as SMAP's background dancers.
On September 21st, 1994 TOKIO officially debuted as a band and released their first single ever titled LOVE YOU ONLY that was sold for over half of million at that moment.
Nagase as vocalist in TOKIO, he can plays guitar & saxophone and able to write & produced songs. Single ashita o mezashite (2005) was written by him.
Nagase get very close with member of TOKIO. He is the youngest in the group & due to his easygoing styles members were treated him as lovely small brother. Accordingly to MABO, every time when Nagase stay with them, they just want to do something to make him laugh. LEADER always said in TOKIO concert, now our Tomoya Babe had grown up become a real man.
b) As an actor
At age of 19, Nagase acted in drama at FUJI TV (Monday 9 o’ clock drama). Until now, he still holds the youngest lead roles artist in this session. He able to performance different kinds of character, from serious cast to comedy cast. He won a good comment on his acting skills.
Nagase had parts in 42 dramas and 19 are from SP. His first lead role in a TV Series was in Kakeochi No Susume (1995), playing a high school student running away with a university student played by Nagasaku Hiromi. More lead roles followed including Hakusen Nagashi (1996), Ikebukuro West Gate Park (2000), Mukodono (2001), and Tiger & Dragon (2005). Mukodono was his first comedic role.
Nagase became more famous and get a lot of supporter after acted in My Boss My Hero (2006). This drama won best drama No. 2 in summer session, best drama No. 9 in year 2006.
He received a special award "Ishihara Yuijiro Award" in 2002 as "The Best Newcomer" for his role in a movie, Seoul.
Talking about drama, Nagase’s hairstyles also one of his topic. Since 1996, Nagase started to keep long hair and long hair is his trademark at the moment. Starting from the drama Love and Eros, Nagase cut hair and from shorter to shorter. During Sea Side Lover, he changed his hair color to gold coffee color. And Handoku, Yan Papa he maintain a very short hair. The most shorter hair he keep was during Otouto (2004). After the Tiger & Dragon Drama, Nagase change his hairstyles to Wild Look. 2006 MBMH, his hair was straight long hair but after the drama he change back to wild look hairstyles.
Nagase and TOKIO is the only group of Johnnys managed to get supported by Female and Male. Therefore, he got a lot of CM from several products Fuji Color and TOPPO.

chelsea - November 8, 2007 長瀬智也様へ oh I didn't notice it was not 国. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. The kanji is also used in Japanese kanji though, it has the exact same meaning of the other kanji 国 with also the same meaning and pronunciation of "kuni" or "koku" (country), but it is more used in japanese literature, names, or high language.

I am not really sure but I think there is a small mistake in the text above - it should be 国際の, not 國際の (the first character is not used as japanese kanji - it is only a chinese character - I think it often appears on anything "made in china"
